Beginner's Weekend

Our last rogue class!

Not sure if you know this, but Workspace is celebrating our 20th birthday this year - crazy right?!

(And yes we are having a party and yes you are invited, put the 15th of November in your diary and we'll send you a proper invite soon.)

Guess what our very first class was?

You got it, Beginner's Weekend.

We call it our last rogue class, because over those 20 years we have tightened up our processes a lot, our project classes are perfected, our block classes are smooth and easy.

But Beginner's Weekend? It's still the Wild West...

Saturday:

The students start with basic ring making in copper or brass. We begin with ring making as this process teaches students many fundamental techniques in one project, measuring, texturing, shaping, cutting, soldering and finishing are all included in this one ring. They are shown how to use a jeweller’s saw to cut their metal to the correct length, how to form it up and how to solder.

Then they learn how to shape their rings and finish them up into a wearable piece of jewellery, all in the first class!

During this first session they are also shown how to texture metals, cut and layer shapes, and other techniques to create decorative elements.

Students can spend their afternoon and evening thinking about and planning their design in silver for the next day. There's a great selection of example pieces in the workshop so everyone can see what’s achievable in the 3-hour time frame.

Sunday:

Here's where it gets wild, because it's time to jump into silver, and you get to make the piece you want! This personalised project can be another ring, or earrings or pendants. Sometimes students can make more than one silver piece if they have enough time.

Check out our last dates for the year below, we would love to have you join us!

What our students are saying:

"My Beginner's Weekend class was the perfect way to give jewellery making a go. I have already enrolled in an 8 week block because I don't want to stop!"

"I have to say that you and your team are all so very, very wonderful at what you do. I LOVE that when I have come in to your courses every effort is made to ensure that every student succeeds. You all have an amazing way of tailoring to each individuals learning type and you are there to help whenever it is needed! I shall be back for more classes and I cannot wait!"
