Service Description

A fantastic course that's full of practical knowledge, fun and inspiration! Create simple designs in wax and then learn the process of setting your waxes up for burn-out and casting into metal from start to finish! Once your pieces are cast you will be taught how to cut, file and shape them into wearable pieces. We will have the opportunity to do two class casting sessions over the block, and you will learn how to set up and clean up your casts and the equipment. Level 1 students - if you have never worked with wax or jewellery before: Learn to work in both soft and hard jewellers' wax to create simple jewellery forms for casting. We start with rings but encourage students to think outside the box! Level 2 +students might have done a lost wax class where the waxes were sent away for casting. Use this block to advance your carving skills. Create slightly more complex forms and learn to set them up for best casting results. Learn finishing techniques and troubleshooting techniques as well as soldering cast items. Included in the class fee are your different types of waxes, consumables and casting investment for two casting sessions. We will be casting as a group so that we use the kiln space efficiently and learn the process together. Not included are any metal costs which vary from student to student depending on what they want to make. Small castings can cost around $6.65 - $8. We will be casting in sterling silver or shibuichi for this block.
