Access and Parking information for our Wellington Studio.

You can find our Wellington studio on the Ground Floor of the East Building in Toi Poneke Arts Centre, 65 Abel Smith St, Wellington.

Arriving at your class:

  • To help prevent the spread of Covid-19, please also wash your hands thoroughly with soapy water first thing as you enter our studio.

  • Toi Pōneke also asks that anyone who feels unwell with shortness of breath, high temperature or coughing to please stay home and let us know you'll miss class.

Where to come:

we are located at 65 Abel Smith St, in the old Wellington Education Board building, which is part of the Toi Poneke Arts Centre. We are the first on the left on the ground floor. You will see our Workspace logo on the front door and windows.

If you are lost or going to be late please text us on 0211691521

We ask that students arrive no more than 5 or 10 min before the class. There's a kitchen down the hall to the right if you need to have a bite to eat before class.

Weekend Access:

The front doors will be unlocked from 10am on Saturdays, but if you arrive early your tutors will be looking out for you so you can knock on the door or windows and they will let you in.  Please note, the front doors to our building are locked on Sundays. If it is really nasty weather, please feel welcome to enter the Arts Centre via the main entrance at the Toi Poneke Gallery (to our left). Ask reception for directions as you can access our building via the air-bridge between the two buildings. If the weather allows, you may simply knock on our windows or door and your tutors will let you in.

Parking:

For full info from the WCC on parking locations and charges check out their website

Parking around our building is street parking - free after 6pm.

Weekend parking costs $2.50 per hour with a limit of 2 hrs - very frustrating for a 3 hr class!

On Kensington St (just up from us) there are limited coupon parks - free all day on the weekend.

Behind Toi Poneke there are limited parks. These are pay and display but don't have the same time limit as street parking. Please check on the MAP that is located on the pay-machine to ensure you park in a NON - reserved park, as there are a lot of reserved parks. If you're unsure, you can also check in at Toi Poneke reception to check your park is ok.

Students often find setting an alarm on their phone as a reminder is a good idea if you need to park on the street, and your tutor can let you back into the building if you need to go out.
