Service Description

Create your own luminous piece of glass art in this inspiring one-day Leadlight Suncatcher workshop with expert tutor Lisa Sinclair. Whether you’re completely new to glass or looking to reconnect with a creative practice, this hands-on class offers the perfect balance of guidance, creativity, and satisfaction. Spend the day immersed in colour, light, and craftsmanship as you learn the timeless techniques of leadlight (also known as copper foil or stained glass work). Beginners will be guided step-by-step through the entire process, starting with selecting from a curated range of simple, elegant patterns designed to set you up for success. You’ll then choose your own colour palette from a beautiful selection of glass, making your piece truly personal. Lisa will teach you how to safely score and cut glass, refine your shapes, and prepare each piece before applying copper foil and soldering everything together. By the end of the day, you’ll have transformed raw materials into a stunning finished suncatcher that glows in the light. For those with some prior experience, this class is also a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills further. You’re welcome to bring along your own projects and use the day as supported studio time, with expert advice on refining your technique. The focus will remain on mastering clean glass cutting, neat foiling, and achieving smooth, even solder lines—key skills that elevate any leadlight work. This is a relaxed, welcoming environment where creativity is encouraged and support is always at hand. Lisa is an experienced and patient tutor who ensures everyone progresses at their own pace, making the class enjoyable and accessible for all skill levels. All essential tools are provided, so you can simply arrive and get started. Materials for one beginner project are included in your course fee, and additional glass or supplies will be available to purchase if you’d like to extend your design or continue working beyond the basics. If you already have your own tools or glass, you’re very welcome to bring them along. By the end of the day, you’ll not only leave with a beautiful handmade suncatcher, but also with a solid foundation of skills and the confidence to continue exploring this addictive and rewarding craft. Please note: Due to the tools and techniques used, this class is not suitable for children. Older teenagers aged 16+ are welcome to attend.
